AFTER ALL IS SAID AND DONE

After all is said and done, we will all go home. Our home is a common home; a home that is neither made of brick nor of mud nor of block nor of glass; a home that is never expanded but that will accommodate all humanity. Our home is a village with many entrances but no exits; you could enter by car accident, through illness-protracted or short, by poisoning etc.  But sorry you cannot exit.

So in the final analysis, what happens to the accountants, given that many distinguished chartered accountants have already taken the transit? What about great politicians? They will have no choice; for many accomplished politicians like Gamal Nasser of Egypt, Abraham Lincoln of USA, Jomo Kenyata of Kenya and quite recently Atta Mills of Ghana etc. have taken the lead. Our great entrepreneurs will undertake this journey just like those great ones like Steve Jobs. Students are not left out. Last month, a fellow student of the university of Ghana died just four days before school reopened. One cannot help but remember the iconic Efo Kodjo Mawugbe and other distinguished playwrights who have passed on. And yes, sometime to come, I shall also join them and you too inevitably will. Owing to this, it seems all that we as humans have done, or are doing or are yet to do is mere vanity.

But no! We have a purpose in this transient life. The mention of this reality must not send chills down your spine. Rather, it must remind you that life in this world is a temporary one and that you must make good use of it. You must not waste so much time; you must take action on that urgent need now without delay. You must read that book now; you must make that move now and seek forgiveness of that neighbor you offended; you must start drawing the business plan now; you must take the proposal to the appropriate quarters now. Above all, it must remind of a superior power called God.

The mention of death only encourages you to use the time you have efficiently; it does not discourage you by making you think that you are pursuing vanity. You do have a purpose and you must pursue that purpose to the fullest, for when you are gone home, your legacy will be a living testimony of your existence  on this earth whether positive or otherwise. So please think about this as you move along because after all is said and done, you will be laid to rest; we will all go home.
